I’m sharing a few examples from my own home from past years so you can gather ideas and create a tablescape that feels personal and beautiful.

1. Fresh Flowers or Greenery

Even a single stem at each place setting brings life and adds a special touch to your table. You can also use fresh or faux greenery down the center as a simple, beautiful centerpiece. This is one of the easiest ways to create a natural, inviting Christmas tablescape.

2. Candlelight for Warmth and Glow

Taper candles, votives, or the soft glow of candlelight instantly add warmth and elegance. Candlelight is one of the most transformative elements in holiday décor — it creates depth, ambiance, and a welcoming environment for your guests.

3. A Personal Touch at Each Seat

A handwritten name card tucked into a pine cone, tied to a candy cane, or set on a charming holder makes every guest feel special. Personalized place settings bring intimacy to your table and remind guests they have a valued place in your home.

4. Layer Your Textures

The Game Plan: Build a Luxe Base First

A beautiful tree is 80% foundation. Before any ornaments go on, we:

• Assemble & secure the stand (tight matters—future you will thank you).
• Fluff in sections from bottom to top so branches look full from every angle.
• Pull the tree away from the wall to fluff the back—then slide it into place.

Pro tip: If your faux tree looks “see-through,” tuck basic greenery garlands deep inside to disguise the pole and metal arms. It instantly feels fuller and more natural.

Garlands, Then Stems (The Designer Layers)

This is the secret to that high-end look.

• Garlands: Evenly space snowy whites, soft greens, pinecones, beads, or ribbon so the eye flows top to bottom.
• Stems/Picks: Add sparkle and movement with glitter leaves, frosted berries, or airy branches. Hook the stem near the trunk and bend into place—no wire needed.

Ornaments: Mix, Cluster, Balance

Time for the showpieces.

• Work in families (glass, velvet, metallic, natural) and spread them out for texture balance.
• Cluster in 3s (one reflective, one matte, one whimsical) to create mini vignettes across the tree.
• Use wire hooks for security; tuck ribbon-hung pieces a bit deeper on a branch for dimension.

Topper & Finishing Touches

A star, angel, or big bow brings the story home. Step back, take a quick phone pic, and adjust any bare spots you only notice on camera (it’s wild how helpful that is!).

Real-Life Fixes We Used (and You Might Need)

• Stability: A little fishing line + wall eye-hook = peace of mind if you have pets/kids (or a mischievous cat like ours).
• Height: We built a low platform under the skirt to lift the tree—total transformation without buying a taller one.

If you’ve been following our Anguilla series, you already know this little island has completely stolen our hearts. From renovating our home to learning the slow rhythms of island life, every week brings something new. In this episode, we’re taking a break from renovation updates to share something a little lighter—our favorite places across the island that truly capture the beauty and soul of Anguilla. Whether you’re planning a visit or just daydreaming from home, here are six of the best spots to visit in Anguilla that we think you’ll love as much as we do.

Rendezvous Bay

This long stretch of soft, powdery sand is where we first fell in love with the island’s south side. The turquoise water, the view of St. Martin across the horizon, and the calm, uncrowded atmosphere make it pure paradise. We love ending the day here with live music at The Dune Preserve or a beach barbecue under the stars at Aurora Resort. It is magic every single time!

Shoal Bay East

Getting here is an adventure (think bumpy dirt road), but the moment you see the water, it’s all worth it. The color alone looks unreal—bright neon turquoise that seems to glow. It’s one of our favorite snorkeling spots, and we always stop at Gwen’s Reggae Bar and Grill for their curry pasta salad and live island music.

Island Harbor & Scilly Cay

On the east end of the island, Island Harbor has that laid-back, local charm. Fishing boats line the shore, and you can hop on a small boat for a five-minute ride to tiny Scilly Cay—home to one of the most beautiful, no-frills beach restaurants built from conch shells. It’s our go-to for sea turtles, snorkeling, and simple island bliss.

Meads Bay

Meads Bay feels like the island showing off. The water shifts from turquoise to deep navy, and the sand is like silk. It’s peaceful during the day and alive at night—especially at Leon’s, one of our favorite beach restaurants for live music, sushi, and sunset cocktails.

Crocus Bay

Tucked on the northwest coast, Crocus Bay has quickly become one of our family favorites. The cliffs, the calm clear water, and the view from our favorite restaurant, Da’Vida, make it the perfect spot to spend a full beach day. It’s also one of the best places on the island for snorkeling—you might even spot sea turtles gliding by.

Sandy Ground

This is where the island truly comes alive. By day, it’s a busy harbor where ships and fishing boats come and go. By night, it’s the heartbeat of Anguilla—string lights, music, and good food up and down the beach. We love grabbing a burger at Roy’s or catching live music at Elvis’s Beach Bar. And if you’re lucky enough to visit during festival season, the boat races here are unforgettable.

Every one of these beaches reminds us why we fell in love with Anguilla in the first place—unhurried, full of character, and breathtakingly beautiful. I’m sure our list of best spots to visit in Anguilla will grow

The Truth About Living in Anguilla: Grocery Runs = Treasure Hunts

We’re diving into the everyday realities of island life-the things we never thought twice about back in the U.S. Back home, one store does it all. In Anguilla, you might visit 3–5 shops to complete a list, and prices run higher because most items are imported. Produce days matter (think Thu–Fri after shipments), meat selection is small, and planning ahead saves the day. We’ve even started bringing some frozen meats in a cooler when we visit.

Learning Water & Cisterns 101

Island homes often collect rainwater in large cisterns. It’s great for everyday use (showers, dishes), but for drinking we refill big jugs at the “mega store” where water is filtered on site—budget-friendly and reliable. City water exists, but pressure can fluctuate and most neighbors still prefer bottled/drinking jugs.

The Shipping Learning Curve

There’s no Prime next-day here. We pack carefully, palletize boxes, and ship via freight, paying duties on arrival. Receipts matter, timelines stretch, and patience is a superpower. The upside? We buy better, less, and choose pieces built to last in the salty, coastal climate.

Reality check: even street directions and seasons work differently—tourist spots can close for weeks during hurricane season. Following street directions sometimes go like “go to the orange wall and make a left” so slowing down (and being flexible) is part of living in Anguilla.

Everyday life in Anguilla come along for my Anguilla morning routine . . .

Island mornings start slow—coffee at 5:30, waves in the distance, and a quick step outside to see where the sun is. Today brought surprise rain and wild wind…then a calm hush as the island woke up (along with the sound of roosters :). The sky broke open into a double rainbow “I have set my rainbow in the clouds…” (Genesis 9:13) and it felt like a promise painted over our little home by the sea.

After several cups of coffee, it’s the quiet time with God that grounds us.

After the show in the sky comes our quiet time in God’s Word, a simple devotional, and space to breathe. It’s not about checking a box; it’s about knowing our Creator and asking for wisdom for marriage, parenting, work and in everything. Psalm 103 has been speaking to my heart: new mercies every morning and love that stretches farther than the horizon.

We do our quiet time together! It unites our souls first thing in the morning. It gives us facetime with each other in a world and life that is so busy most the time. We pray together. We read separately, but then we share what God is showing us. Scott even chose a devotional on marriage this year, which has been such a blessing for us. This practice, this time together, it all started in Anguilla. And every time were return here, I’m reminded of how faithful God has been, not only in our lives, but in our marriage, too. It’s one of the greatest gifts that He’s given us. 

Simple Joys: Breakfast, the Bed, and the Little Things

Breakfast is a team effort (Scott’s the chef; I’m the bagel girl). Groceries can take a few stops here, but that’s part of the adventure. I set the table, clip a tiny “yard bouquet,” and we sit together—something we rarely do back home. Then I make the bed (island me does it daily!) with washable layers and comfy pillows so guests will feel truly at home.

Laundry with a View

Laundry isn’t my favorite anywhere else, but here the breeze turns it into a small joy. We line-dry most things to save power except for the towels and sheets those get the dryer treatment because no one likes “crunchy” sheets. It’s ordinary, but I’m learning to say thank you for clean water, a home, and this slower rhythm.

Hey friend! This is our Anguilla series about our Anguilla home renovation, the little dream that turned into our biggest adventure. We closed on our island fixer-upper, and today we’re taking you inside (and outside!) for the very first walk-through. Think sunrise views, salty breezes, and a whole lot of plans—some DIY, some save-up-and-tackle-later.

The View That Sold Us (and Why the “Front Yard” Is the Sea)

Stand at our gate and it’s just endless blue. Locals taught us: wherever the water is that’s your front yard. From here we can hear the waves, see the lights of St. Martin at night, and watch a new sunrise every season. No pool yet, but direct access to the water means swimming, snorkeling, and paddle boarding right out front. It’s the calm that makes you breathe a little deeper and remember Psalm 95: “The sea is His, for He made it.”

Outdoor Living Plans: Patios, Gates & A Fresh Coastal Canvas

The house is concrete with tons of potential. We’re replacing the metal gates with warm mahogany, extending the upper patio, and adding an outdoor shower downstairs. Landscaping will come later (irrigation is a must here), but for now: hammocks, laundry with a view, and practical updates that make the shell feel like home. The roof, windows, doors, and shutters are first on the list to button things up before we get fancy. Paint will be classic white so we can ship it easily and layer warmth with furniture and wood details.

Inside the Anguilla Home Renovation Tour: Sunrise Room, Arch Room & Budget-Wise Refreshes

Upstairs, two ocean-facing bedrooms open to private balconies. The Sunrise Room will become a cozy king with blackout drapes, fresh white walls, and simple wood furniture. The Arch Room (named after Anguilla’s natural limestone arch) gets the same airy treatment—light, functional, and ready for guests.

Between them: a Jack-and-Jill bath we’re refreshing on a budget by painting the tile and grout, keeping the tub for families, swapping the vanity and lighting when we can. The kitchen stays simple for now (new hardware/appliances later), and the living/dining area will seat ten comfortably with one big TV for the house.

Downstairs, renovations have started: we reconfigured the former apartment into a generous bath with double vanity, a sitting area for guests, and a bedroom that may get recycled closet storage. It’s all about creating a peaceful, rental-ready space while we work in phases.

Buying a House in Anguilla: What It Really Took

Welcome back, friends! Last week we shared how a simple family trip turned into a wild “are we really doing this?” moment. This week, we’re pulling back the curtain on buying a house in Anguilla from that last-minute offer before our flight home to a six-month swirl of permits, island time, and a whole lot of faith.

The Not-So-Glam Steps No One Talks About

We’re a middle-class, blue-collar family. This shouldn’t be our story and yet, here we are. What helped (and stretched us) most:

Attorneys + paperwork galore – Unlike closing stateside, we both needed attorneys and mountains of documents.

Permits & interviews – Getting permission to purchase as non-residents meant background checks and a government interview. Nerve-wracking? Yes. Impossible? Not at all.

Island time is real – Banks, holidays, WhatsApp-only updates—everything moved slower than we’re used to, and we learned to breathe, pray, and keep going.

Surprise requirements – Think: proof of insurance, extra escrows, and more. We scrambled—but doors kept opening.

First Night: Pizza, Fans, and a Sunrise Promise

Closing day felt surreal. We walked into a fully furnished (and fully someone-else’s-stuff) house, hunted down a couple of fans, ate frozen pizza, and listened to the wind rattle the shutters. Did we sleep? Barely. Did the sunrise the next morning make it all worth it? Absolutely. And coffee never tasted so good.

This home isn’t just a dream—it’s an invitation. We hope one day you’ll sit on this patio, hear the doves, watch the water change colors, and feel the same peace we did.
