My Top 10 Tips for Spring Cleaning

Your family has been cooped up all winter long and the weather is finally starting to warm up. As you look around the house there is dust and grime everywhere. Keeping a family contained for months will do that to your home. Looks like it’s time to start spring cleaning!

Here are my top 10 favorite things to do throughout my home when Spring Arrives:

1) Room by Room

First, focus on one room at a time! Don’t be crazy and think you can all happen in a day. Give yourself grace, and plenty of time, make a game plan, take breaks, and turn your music up loud. Open your windows and let the fresh air in!

2) Declutter Before You Clean

Decluttering is one of the foundational principles of organization. When you are decluttering determine which items may need a new home. A new home might mean you are giving it to a friend, selling it on a marketplace, storing it for the season, donating it, or simply moving it to a different space in another room.

3) Freshen Up Your Air Vents

Take down all your HVAC vents then fill the tub with bleach and soak in hot water. Use rubber gloves to protect your skin and grab a scrub brush.

4) Dust Off Your Ceiling Fans, Lights and Chandeliers

Get your step stool out grab a bucket of soapy water and a rag and get rid of those winter blues.

5) Curtains and Drapes

Take down your drapes and wash them or send them to the dry cleaners.

6) Wash Your Windows

Remember when washing your windows to always work side-to-side and up-and-down never a circle pattern.

7) Move and Clean Furniture

Move your furniture to collect those lost toys, loose change, and trash, and clean under, around, and behind. You may even find something you lost!

8) Wash Textiles

Wash your cushions, pillow covers, and rugs in the living room and bedrooms.

9) Organize Drawers and Closets

Clean out your bedroom drawers and closets of things you haven’t worn or used in a year!

10) Purge and Clean Storage Areas

Go through the pantry, bathroom cabinets, refrigerator, and freezer to toss expired food, spices, makeup, medicine, and hair products. Use this as an opportunity to wipe everything down and reorganize.

Bonus Tip: Wipe down all the doorknobs and switches (the finishing touch!)

Look at Spring Cleaning as a Fresh Start Instead of a Chore

You are setting the stage for the new season! So arm yourself with these tips, some scrub brushes, and cleaners! Then transform your home into a clean, orderly, and relaxing space. Happy cleaning!
